Several suspects were arrested by officers and detectives with the Picayune Police Department in relation to routine patrols and community complaints, all for drug related offenses.
Picayune Police narcotics detectives conducting routine patrols on Oct. 25 along Highway 11 S. near Interstate 59 just after 6 p.m. saw an SUV traveling north on Highway 11 North at a high rate of speed and left the road several times, leading to a stop, according to a press release from the department.
As detectives approached the vehicle, the strong odor of burnt marijuana was detected. Detectives then asked the driver of the vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Robert Lee Courtiade, of 1020 McKinley St., Waveland to exit the vehicle and a search was conducted.
In the search, the detectives found bag of a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, a hand rolled cigar containing a substance suspected to be marijuana, a lighter, bag containing several pills determined to be tramadol and clonazepam and six bags containing a crystal like substance suspected to be methamphetamine inside the vehicle, the release states. A scale with residue from marijuana and methamphetamine and clear and yellow bags were also found in the vehicle.
Courtiade was arrested for two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and careless driving, the release states.
In a separate incident that same day, the detectives responded to a community complaint of suspected narcotic activity and loitering at the corner of Kingsway Drive and Brookdale Drive just after 9 p.m. They arrived to find five suspects at the scene, 43-year-old Kevin Dewayne Jenkins of 1223 Kingsway Dr., Apt. F24, 58-year-old-Manuel “Jugg” Coleman of 1300 Kingsway Dr., 60-year-old JC Holloway of 1223 Kingsway Dr., Apt. F48, 48-year-old Sean Raynard White of 2112 Morris St., and 30-year-old Darick Jermaine Holloway of 1103 Brookdale Dr., standing in the middle of the roadway next to a no loitering sign.
All five men were asked to place their hands on the patrol vehicle, four of which complied, the release states. Jenkins, however, became irate and used foul language towards the detectives and refused several commands by the detectives to comply. Once Jenkins was “deescalated,” a search of his person was conducted, where the detectives found a bag with several blue pills with a dolphin inscribed, several pink pills with a dolphin inscribed and several yellow pills with President Donald Trump’s head inscribed in his pocket, all suspected to be ecstasy, the release states.
Jenkins was arrested for two counts of possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest by fighting, disorderly conduct failure to comply, public profanity and loitering, the release states.
At that time a large bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was observed on the ground near the other four men. The release states that none of the men claimed ownership, leading all four to be arrested for possession of a controlled substance and loitering.
