A Pearl River County man died Thursday afternoon from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Picayune Police officers were dispatched to the eight-mile marker on Interstate 59 South at 4:26 p.m. Thursday in reference to a male subject lying in the grass on the side of the road, Picayune Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.
When officers arrived on scene, they found several individuals attempting to do CPR on the man. Emergency medical personnel arrived and took over CPR, but by 4:45 p.m. the victim showed no signs of life and the coroner was contacted, Magri said.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage identified the deceased as August Pradillo, 73, of 1812 East Lakeshore Drive, Carriere.
Turnage said Pradillo’s cause of death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Officers found a small caliber revolver at the scene. Investigation into the incident revealed that Pradillo walked from his home in Hide-A-Way-Lake through the woods to the interstate where his body was found.
Foul play is not suspected to be a factor in this incident, Magri said.
