POPLARVILLE — The Poplarville Hornets earned its second win this season during Friday’s game against the Pearl River Central Blue Devils. The score was 42-6.
Hornets tailback Austin Bolton scored two of those touchdowns Friday night, one for 59 yards and another for 13 yards, both in the first quarter.
Cory Knight also had scoring run in the first quarter.
Other scoring players for the Hornets include Roosevelt Raine, Tyson Holston and Ethan Taylor, with a 33 yard touchdown in the third quarter.
The Devils only crossed the end zone once during Friday’s matchup, when Tristan Anderson carried the ball in the second quarter.
While the Devils’ attempt at an extra point was unsuccessful, Ethan Spiers completed all six attempts for the Hornets, bringing the score to a final of 42-6.
This is the second loss for Devils Head Coach Larry Dolan so far this season. He said he intends to keep working with the team to find the right combination that works for the nine games left in the season..
“We’re going to go back and get busy and work and try to get better. We just got to get the right people in there and make some plays,” Dolan said.
The Hornets, who went all the way to the state championship last year, appear to be on target to reach that milestone again. But Beech said his eyes are on the weeks ahead before they even think about the playoffs.
“It’s a long season and we’re not even thinking about that right now. Right now, we’re focused on playing the best football by the time we get to district, then we’ll look forward,” Beech said.
The Pearl River Central Blue Devils will host Forrest County Agricultural, while the Poplarville Hornets will host Seminary.
