The Poplarville primary election was close Tuesday night as poll workers read the votes aloud at City Hall.
According to the unofficial count released Tuesday evening, Rossie Creel received the most votes at 186, followed by Byron Wells at 177. Glenn Bolin came in third at 104.
Pending the addition of affidavit ballots, a runoff election will be scheduled for May 16.
Those who did not vote in the primary are still eligible to vote in the runoff.
Final results will be released next Tuesday, May 9 once affidavits have been counted.
The aldermen election will be held June 6.
Unofficially, Creel and Wells will move on to the runoff. Unofficial results show that 31.8 percent of registered voters turned out to the polls Tuesday, according to Alderwoman Maggie Smith.
Poll workers reported 12 affidavits still to count as of Tuesday night. Paper ballots were used during the election in an effort to save the city money.
