Tom “Tommy” Stewart passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 in Hattiesburg. He was born June 11, 1947 to Robert (“Bob”) and Arlene Stewart.
As a boy, Tom enjoyed Dixie League baseball and, as a father, enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball teams. Tom was an avid golfer who won the Millbrook club championship in 1969. As a vocational rehabilitation counselor, Tom spent many years helping people return to work after disabling injuries and illnesses.
Tom was blessed with friends and families who loved his sense of humor, his love of a good story, and his authentic approach to every situation. Tom was always able to remember what it’s like to be a kid, and knew how to talk to his granddaughters in a way that made them feel respected and loved. He valued the friendships he developed from his early childhood on and counted on those friends for a lifetime of good times.
Tom is survived by his wife, Dona Sue; daughters, Jenny (Ben) Register, Kristen, Kimberly (Scott) Stephens; granddaughters, Lauren, Haven and Audrey Register and Reese Stephens who will miss him immensely; sisters, Katherine “Katy”, Dorothy “Dotty” and Harriet “Tudi” Stewart, along with their husbands Ed Heaton, Robert Buhl and Rick Felsing.
