Maroon Tide offense looks to capitalize on Friday

After Picayune Memorial High School’s 56-21 victory this season against St. Martin, it didn’t seem likely that the Maroon Tide would be able to match that offensive production in a single game. However, last week Picayune provided yet another reason why it deserves to be one of the top-ranked football teams in Mississippi, scoring a season-high nine touchdowns against the Gautier Gators in a 62-38 victory.
The undefeated Maroon Tide has blown away their competition with an average 22.6-point margin-of-victory in the five games played this season. Although the Tide offense is led by senior running back Josh Littles, the reason for Picayune’s offensive success can be credited to its strong offensive line that has opened up lanes for Littles to collect 1,001 rushing yards while leading him to the end zone 12 times. Littles has shown no signs of slowing down as he heads into Friday coming off a 298- yard rushing game with five touchdowns.
Picayune now looks to keep its momentum rolling as the team travels to Gulfport and takes on West Harrison High School Friday.
The West Harrison Hurricanes started their 2016-17 season on the right foot, defeating Bay High School 35-14, but lost their next four games, giving up an average of 36.25 points per game to their opponents.
The Hurricanes feed on the success of sophomore quarterback Dayln Anderson and junior running back Zavion Pride. Anderson has completed 34 percent of his passes and surrendered seven interceptions.
This could be detrimental for the Hurricanes this week as they battle against a determined Maroon Tide defense.
Picayune has had no problem getting through opposing offensive lines lately, tallying 13 sacks—averaging 2.6 sacks per game—while causing 13 fumbles in five games.
Kickoff begins at 7 p.m. on Friday at West Harrison High School.
