The Rotary Club of Picayune honored three of its scholarship recipients at their weekly meeting Tuesday.
Rachel Smith, from Picayune Memorial High School, accepted a small scholarship to attend The University of Mississippi to study biology and pre-medicine.
Two students from Pearl River Central High School also accepted scholarships from the Rotary Club of Picayune to attend the University of Southern Mississippi.
Cody Spiers was awarded a $3,000 scholarship and will be pursuing a degree in information technology. He will also be assisting with coaching duties for the PRC football team.
Korey Hosch was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to study film and hopes to be a director.
Not present at the meeting was Olivia Rose Segari, from Picayune Memorial High School, who was also awarded a scholarship from the Rotary Club of Picayune.
Andrew Bates, a senior at Picayune Memorial High School thanked the Rotary Club for helping him attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp.
Bates said he was chosen to attend the camp by his high school counselor.
The camp taught students about leadership and how to treat people, said Bates.
He said one speaker that particularly moved him discussed how to avoid most problems by talking it out.
“If you can talk it out, it makes you healthy emotionally and physically,” said Bates.
Bates said he would highly recommend the camp to other students because it taught him to be more accepting and nicer to others.
