Securing useful additions to Friendship Park

Saturday, officials with the Picayune Police Department’s summer camp hosted a bowl-a-thon to raise funds to purchase benches and/or picnic tables to place around the splash pad at Friendship Park.
Last year, the participants in the police department’s summer camp raised funds put toward the purchase of a wheelchair accessible swing at Friendship Park. We are hopeful that this amenity has provided hours of joy for the wheelchair bound youth of Picayune and the surrounding area.
Here at the Item, we are happy the splash pad opened just in time for the hot and humid days of summer. We are looking forward to taking pictures of the children enjoying this fun new activity.
However, there is currently nowhere for parents to sit while they watch their children play on the splash pad.
The installation of benches and picnic tables would be a great addition to the area.
Not only will these new features provide parents and children with a place to rest, but they will be a great place for families to have a picnic and meet other parents.
The summer months provide a great opportunity to make new friends, enjoy being outside and spend time with family.
We are pleased that Picayune offers a variety of kid-friendly activities and has plans to construct more in the future.
There’s nothing more important than spending time with your family and ensuring your children have happy memories to reflect upon.
Monday, Picayune Police Department Capt. Theresa Milar said they have decided to extend their fundraising efforts until June 20.
Anyone who would like to donate to the cause can contact Milar at 601-798-7411, ext. 1501.
We hope that many community members will give what they can to fund what will be a wonderful addition to the splash pad and Friendship Park.
