Tobacco store altercation ends in assault charge

One woman was injured and another woman was charged with assault and kidnapping after an altercation at a Picayune tobacco store.
According to the police report filed with the Picayune Police Department, on March 19 at 9:36 a.m., officers were dispatched to a local tobacco store in reference to an assault.
Upon arrival, they met with the complainant who stated she had entered the business to purchase a tobacco product for her husband, the report states.
During this time, the store clerk, identified as 43-year-old Jennifer Mixon of 37 Oak Point Rd., Picayune, allegedly accused the complainant of stealing, the report states.
The complainant told police officers that she told Mixon that “she didn’t know what she was talking about and that she hadn’t taken anything,” the report states.
According to the report, the complainant said Mixon then grabbed her keys and attempted to lock the complainant inside the store.
As the complainant tried to leave the store, Mixon grabbed the complainant by the hair of the head and kneed her in the abdomen and chest area, the complainant stated in the report.
According to the report, during the physical altercation, the complainant stated that Mixon also grabbed her around the neck and, as the assault continued, parts of the complainant’s clothes were ripped off.
The complainant told officers she was finally able to get away from Mixon and fled to her vehicle to call the police, the report states.
Upon officers’ arrival at the scene, they observed video surveillance footage from inside the store. Through further investigation, it was determined that no items were stolen or taken by the complainant, the report states.
The officers met with the complainant and observed several abrasions and marks to the complainant’s neck, chest and back area, the report states.
Mixon was charged with simple assault and kidnapping, the report states.
