Gordon Winsby Jeffers

Gordon Winsby Jeffers, 80, of Picayune, Miss. and Cary, N.C. passed away March 25, 2016 at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, N.C.
He was born December 17, 1935 in Sioux City, Iowa a son of Walter George and Bertha Irene Pratt Jeffers. Gordon enrolled in New Mexico A&M University (now New Mexico State University) in Las Cruces, N.M., earning a degree in mechanical engineering in 1959, and worked for Rockwell International a Los Angeles, Calif. based aerospace company. Gordon spent 35 years in the US aerospace industry in several positions supporting rocket engine testing and test stand design. He retired in 1993 as the Rocketdyne manager of the Space Shuttle Main Engine B Test Complex at Stennis Space Center in Bay St. Louis, Miss..
In 1961, Gordon married Sharon Bryant. He is survived by Sharon; a son, Gordon Scott Jeffers of Tampa, Fla.; and a daughter and son in law, Susan and Craig Wright of Raleigh, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, and three sisters.
A celebration of Gordon’s life with family and friends will take place in Mississippi.
