To honor Christ: Plenty of area churches offer something special Dec. 25

From festive caroling to candlelight ceremonies, the churches in Pearl River County are hosting events on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
In Picayune, the First Baptist Church of Picayune Christmas Eve service will start tonight at 5 p.m. There will be caroling, the Lord’s Supper, and a candlelight ceremony, where churchgoers will light a candle during service. First Baptist Church is located at 401 Goodyear Blvd., Picayune.
St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church will be joining in on the Christmas spirit tonight with Vigil Mass at 4 p.m. and Mass at 7 p.m. On Dec. 25, there will be Mass at 9 a.m. The church will also offer a nativity scene for the community. St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is located at 1000 Goodyear Blvd., Picayune.
First United Methodist Church of Picayune will be holding a Candlelight Christmas Eve Communion Service tonight at 6 p.m. First United Methodist Church is located at 323 North Haugh Ave., Picayune.
Saint Barnabas Anglican Church will be hosting a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 5:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Carols will be sung before the service. On Dec. 25, service begins at 10 a.m. Saint Barnabas is located at 201 Norwood St. Picayune.
In Poplarville, First Baptist Church of Poplarville, located at 203 South Main St., will host their annual Candlelight Christmas Eve service starting at 5 p.m. The community is invited to attend. They will observe the Lord’s Supper during the service.
First United Methodist Church, located at 708 Julia St. in Poplarville, is holding a Christmas Eve service tonight in the sanctuary at 5 p.m.
St. Joseph Catholic Church will be hosting a Christmas Vigil Mass at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Caroling starts at 4:30 p.m. They will also have a Christmas Day Mass at 8 a.m. St. Joseph Catholic Church is located at 12 Bilbo Hill Drive in Poplarville.
