Nicholson Elementary is hosting their annual science themed event, Camp Chaos on June 1-5 for any Pearl River County student entering grades fourth through eighth next school year.
This is the fifth summer Nicholson Elementary will host Camp Chaos, a science camp that will be focusing this summer on weather, solar energy and renewable and non-renewable resources, said camp director Maureen Politz.
Politz teaches the second through sixth grade gifted students at Nicholson Elementary. She will be running the camp, along with other teachers from the school.
On June 5th, the last day of camp, campers will take a field trip to the National Weather Services weather station in Slidell, La.
The camp will take place at Nicholson Elementary from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Camp applications are available in the Picayune School District superintendent’s office. The camp can only accomadate up to 50 students, so applicants will be accepted on a first come first serve basis, Politz said.
Camp admission is free, however Nicholson Elementary is asking each camper to bring three canned food items that will be donated to a local food bank, said Politz.
Camp T-shirts will be available for purchase throughout the week.
Nicholson Elementary received a grant from the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation, which is how they are funding the camp.
