The Carriere Volunteer Fire Department has a new fire truck.
The department acquired the new truck from Deep South Fire Trucks in Seminary, Mississippi. According to Assistant Chief Jason Bannister, the new Class A pumper and tanker will better the department’s response time. The new truck is replacing an old tanker that was no longer operational.
The total financed price of the truck is $245,000, but of that total the Rural Fire Truck Acquisition Association Program awarded a grant to pay for $70,000, or about a quarter of the total. The department will pay the difference, said Bannister.
The new truck will also help to better Carriere’s fire rating.
“It’s going to help out a lot, right now we are at a class 8 and we are trying to acquire a class 7,” Bannister said.
The new truck will be housed at station one in Carriere, and the truck it is replacing will move to station three.
