Poplarville School District recognizes excellence in DECA

Monday, the Poplarville School Board recognized three of the district’s outstanding DECA students and their advisor, Hope Roberts.
According to www.deca.org, the organization prepares high school and college students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
“The group won first place in “Entrepreneurship: Growing Your Business” at state competition on February 20,” Roberts said.
Roberts was also recognized as the district five DECA advisor of the year and advisor of year through the Mississippi Association of Marketing Educators.
Carlie Lambert, state DECA officer, Ondrea Ladner and Camyrn Pierce were recognized for their accomplishments in DECA at the state level.
The group will compete in Florida for a chance to win national recognition.

In other action the board:
–– Recognized the school district for their achievements in financial reporting. The district received a certificate from the office of the state auditor for this accomplishment.
–– Approved the review of the audited financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014 with no findings.
–– Approved a request to advertise for bids for the services of a school photographer.
–– Approved Section 125 flexible benefit plan adoption agreement. Superintendent Carl Merritt said the matter is in regards to the pre taxed dollar amount for the personnel payroll.
–– Approved the application for a discretionary and a 2015-2016 typical or troubled mental health education grants. These funds will provide for services to help students, Merritt said.
–– Approved to advertise for bids for occupational therapy services, physical therapy services and psychological services.
The next board meeting will be held on April 13 at the district’s central office on Julia Street.
