Leslie S. Whiddon

Leslie S. Whiddon was born to Delia Viola Cayten and Columbus Ralph Whiddon on June 13, 1919 in Lamar County, Miss.. A Bronze star recipient, he served with the 1st Marine Division at Guadalcanal and other areas of the South Pacific Theatre during WWII. He later worked for Texas Gas Corp. for 16 years, became a master machinist for Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA, then retired in 1982. Enjoying retirement, he and his beloved wife Martha Ann Page traveled this country and abroad for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lester Lawrence and Charles Ray Whiddon.
He is survived by his children, James M. Whiddon (Lee Ann), Christine W. Saltzberg (Gene), Thomas P. Whiddon (Sherylyn); grandchildren Jonathan, Matthew, Jessica, Kimberly; great grandchildren Paige, Nathan, Julia; 2 step grandchildren Keisha, Gabe; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Leslie lost his hearing in 1942 during the war. This resilient man overcame this and other obstacles, becoming a loving father, friend, community leader, and appreciator of music and sports.
The Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. with Visitation from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, Pass Christian.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
Private burial will be held Monday, August 25 at Biloxi National Cemetery.
