Wayne County forces 3rd game with Devils

WAYNESBORO — Pearl River Central hosts Wayne County this afternoon at 1 in the third and deciding game of their best-of-three Class 5A South State quarterfinal series. Homestanding Wayne County evened the series at 1-1 with a 3-1 win Friday night. The Blue Devils took game one Thursday night at home 6-1.
Friday’s game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fifth when the War Eagles tallied all three of their runs.
The Blue Devils added a single run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Mason Songy. Dylan Spiers took the loss for Pearl River Central. Wayne County is now 12-0 at home this season.
The winner of this series moves on to play the winner of the George County-West Jones series in the Class 5A South State semifinals next week.
