POPLARVILLE— A partnership between the MSU Extension Family and Consumer Science department and the Poplarville Woman’s Club has resulted in a Youth Beginners Sewing Camp for boys and girls ages 10 through 17.
The camp will be held from 9 a.m. until noon, June 23 through 27, in the auditorium of the Pearl River County Administration Building, which is located at 417 Highway North in Poplarville.
Applicants should register and pay the $30 fee by the deadline June 16.
Poplarville Woman’s Club member and Alderwoman Shirley Wiltshire is excited about the opportunity for young people to experience the gratification of sewing.
A master clothing volunteer, Wiltshire said she and a few of her fellow master clothing volunteers, who also belong to the women’s club, wanted to share their skillset with young people.
The program will be instructed by Extension Family and Consumer Science Agent Dawn Vosbein.
Vosbein said their goal is to have more youth entries in the County Fair.
“Besides the recognition that comes through earning awards, there is so much money to be saved and satisfaction to be gained through constructing your own clothing or items for your home,” Vosbein said.
“Both male and female applicants are welcome. We only have room for 10 students and spots will be filled on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis,” Vosbein said.
