Picayune Police Department arrested Jeremy Mitchell Tuesday, June 11, for possession of precursor chemicals.
At 5:32 p.m., an officer was responding to a verbal dispute at the Winn Dixie on U.S. Highway 11 said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief of police. Upon arrival, the officer saw the suspect, Mitchell of 34 Albert Prince Rd., Carriere, grab a bag out of his pickup truck, Magri said, and the officer told Mitchell to come to him. Mitchell then dropped the bag and the officer questioned him about the contents of the bag, Magri said.
Mitchell told the officer it contained clothes, but the officer heard a metallic noise when the bag was dropped, Magri said.
Upon further investigation, the officers discovered a bottle of liquid sulfuric acid, bottle of lye, bag of ammonium nitrate, bag of DampRid, a pack of coffee filters, and a round tin can containing insulin syringes inside the bag, Magri said. All items are used in the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine, he said.
Mitchell was arrested and transported to Picayune Criminal Justice Center, Magri said. He was later released on $20,000 bond, he said.
