Authorities said Picayune resident Tanya Lynn Huacuja, 34, died in a one-vehicle accident over the New Year’s holiday weekend.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol Master Sgt. Johnny Poulos, Huacuja died in an accident that occurred on Hwy. 11 North near the Ozona Community.

He said the accident occurred about 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, New Year’s Eve.

Huacuja was transported to Highland Community Hospital in Picayune where she later died from injuries received in the accident, said Poulos.

Authorities said that the 1997 Honda Civic Huacuja was driving left the road, hitting a culvert and then a tree.

The car rolled over several times and then landed upside-down, said Poulos.

Poulos said authorities are still investigating the incident. He said Huacuja was wearing a seatbelt.

Funeral arrangements for Huacuja were still pending late Monday evening.
