A one vehicle accident early Monday morning on Jackson Landing Road resulted in the death of 20 year-old Deven Mitchell of Picayune.
At about 4:30 a.m., a passerby called in the accident, which occurred about 130 feet east of the intersection of Jackson Landing and Foster Clark Road, Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Shane Tucker said. Tucker said since there were no witnesses to the accident when it occurred, an exact time of the accident is not now known.
Investigation into the accident, based on tire marks and gouges left at the scene, indicate that at some point during the night Mitchell was traveling east on Jackson Landing Road when for an unknown reason the 2005 Dodge pickup he was driving left the road on the right side, the chief investigator said. Tucker said the investigation showed Mitchell apparently overcorrected and crossed the road to the left side where the vehicle struck a tree off the shoulder and came to rest facing south, blocking one lane of traffic.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said Mitchell died as a result of bleeding out as result of injuries sustained in the accident.
No on else involved in the accident, Tucker said.
