The Greenwood Leflore Airport’s current control tower was originally built to be a temporary facility. That was 20 years ago.

The airport is finally getting a new control tower.

Airport manager Bardin Redditt said the airport’s 12-foot tower is obsolete.

The new tower will be 75 feet tall. That will enable air traffic controllers to see the entire airport, observe aircraft on the ground as well as in the air, and see both ends of the main runways.

The foundation is already in place.

Construction will be done by Flintco Companies Inc.

Several local, state and federal officials participated in a groundbreaking last week.
