Voters in Flowood have approved the sale of liquor.
More than 75 percent of those voting, according to complete but unofficial returns, approved the sale of liquor and wine by the glass in local restaurants.
Leaders of the town of about 7,000 located east of Jackson had lobbied the Legislature for approval of an election on the issue.
Beer sales already are allowed in Rankin County. The Legislature passed a bill this year allowing Flowood and the area around the Mississippi Braves’ Trustmark Park to come out from under Rankin’s dry laws through resort status.
The legislation does not allow any liquor stores, only on-premises consumption.
A vote on resort status for the area in Pearl has not been set.
