Chevron USA has pledged $400 million in capital investments and 60 new full-time jobs in an agreement to win funds to widen an access road to its refinery and build a bridge over U.S. Highway 90 and a railway.
Chevron and Jackson County supervisors agreed Monday to the memorandum of understanding.
Local officials will now apply to the governor’s office for a Community Development Block Grant.
The MOU states that Chevron’s commitments to the capital investments and job creation must be met within three years of the project’s conclusion. Also, 51 percent of the new jobs must be filled by or made available to workers from low- or moderate-income families.
