A call by a concerned citizen about what he thought to be a child in distress turned out to be a false alarm.
Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier said a call from a concerned citizen reported what he thought to be a child screaming and splashing in water along the Hobolochitto Creek near Mississippi Highway 43 North and North Beech Street.
Deputies, Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries responded to the call, conducting a search by land water and air along Miss. 43 N. and Beech Street where the bridges cross the creek. Saucier said the search also involved homes adjacent to the creek and during that search no one reported a missing child. As of Thursday afternoon no statements of missing children have been reported to the Sheriff’s Department, he said.
