Kawneer officials says that 250 employees at the Kawneer aluminum manufacturing facility in Hernando will lose their jobs when the plant closes in June.
The facility, which has an annual payroll of $12 million, has been in Hernando for 41 years and is one of the oldest industries in DeSoto County.
Mike Cooper with the North American Public Strategy Group prefaced the official announcement Tuesday by saying he had some “sad news” to deliver to the Hernando and surrounding community.
Cooper said Kawneer is closing its Hernando manufacturing facility as part of a production realignment.
Kawneer is an Alcoa business and a leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for the commercial construction industry.
Plant manager Derek Wilson the company will try and assist employees who lose their jobs with finding other employment.
