Two convicted felons on probation have been arrested and charged with capital murder in the March 5 stabbing death of a disabled Orange Grove woman.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd says there’s a “strong case” against 44-year-old Johnny Lee Townsend of Pascagoula, and 41-year-old Joe Anthony Loggins of Moss Point. The pair allegedly stole 46-year-old Donna Slater’s purse before leaving the wheelchair-bound woman to die in her home on March 5.
Townsend, who was released last July after an eight-year prison sentence following conviction on several charges, including armed robbery, had been in jail since March 6 on a probation violation. Loggins was arrested Thursday at a rehabilitation center.
Both men were denied bond and are being held in the Jackson County jail.
