Confederate troops will again occupy Fort Pemberton.
The 30th Mississippi Co. K is presenting an encampment demonstration April 4 at the site on U.S. Highway 82 just west of Greenwood.
Unit member Larry McCluney says the date is the anniversary of the battle and a preparation for 2013, which will be the 150th anniversary of Fort Pemberton.
McCluney says about 20 men will demonstrate Civil War camp life and perform drills and artillery firing demonstrations.
Confederates built Fort Pemberton out of earth, wood and cotton bales in 1863 to block Union forces trying to get to the Yazoo River and ultimately Vicksburg. Using eight large guns pointed down a straightaway on the Tallahatchie River, the Rebels turned back Union gunboats.
