One year after its adoption, Corinth’s ban on smoking in public buildings appears to have been largely accepted as a fact of life.
In 12 months, the Corinth Police Department hasn’t written a single citation for an offending individual or business. The ban went into effect Dec. 6, 2007.
Police Chief David Lancaster, whose department is charged with enforcing the ordinance, says his department does routinely keep its eye on establishments selling alcohol where one might expect to find some smoke in the air.
The ordinance generally includes all city-owned facilities, all enclosed public places, places of employment, areas within 20 feet of entrances, outdoor seating areas of restaurants within 20 feet of entrances and seating areas of outdoor sporting events and performances.
