Grave site vandalism angers family

A family in Hancock County says vandals have been making a mess of the graves at a cemetery that has become an after-dark hangout.
Clifton Bubba Chatman was buried in the Bayou Lacroix Cemetery in March of 2005. At least twice a month, his daughter, Debbie Martin, drives from Bogalousa, La., to help clean the grave.
But she often finds that vandals have made a mess of the site. On Sunday, she found beer bottles all around and headstones and plants turned over.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says deputies are patrolling the area and they are investigating the complaints. The family says a wrecked sport utility vehicle recently was found near the grave. Chatman family members say the SUV has paint marks that look like they came from concrete blocks surrounding the Chatman grave.
