SUMMER DIG, AUGUST 16 – 18
Published 5:58 pm Wednesday, August 13, 2008
The Pearl River Chapter of the Mississippi Archaeological Association is hosting the annual “Summer Dig.” Professional and avocational archaeologists will excavate more of the Ladner-Dedeaux Site. This site was the home of Carlos Ladner, Jr., and possibly his father. These are the ancestors of hundreds who live in the coastal counties and elsewhere. Bernard Dedeaux, whose wife was the daughter of Carlos Jr., next occupied the site. Carlos Jr. and his home were associated with the first telegraph line between New York and New Orleans, circa 1845. The majority of the artifacts recovered thus far date between the early 1800’s and 1850. Pictured above are some of the pieces found. The site is located on Wolf River near the Silver Run Community. Visitors are welcome, 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., August 16 – 18. For more information, call 601-798-3395 or 601-798-3365.
