An Oktibbeha County group will unveil Sunday a monument to Union soldiers who fought in the Civil War.
The marker will be located next to the current Confederate soldier monument on the courthouse grounds.
The Rev. Jesse Westbrook, a member of the Oktibbeha County Justice Coalition, which is sponsoring the stone monument, said the Union monument will bring unity and tell a more complete story.
He said the Confederate marker does represent the views of most of the local residents.
The placement of the monument on the courthouse grounds was approved by county supervisors in 2006.
