The outhouse race scheduled for Saturday will not take place, however the jambalaya and sweet potato cook offs and other planned events for that day will still kick off at their scheduled times.
Lack of participation for the outhouse race has caused the event to be canceled, Picayune Main Street Manager Reba Beebe said. However, all other events scheduled for that day will go as planned.
Those events include the Jambalaya cook off where judging is scheduled for 11 a.m., contestants should set up by 8 a.m. in the Gaise parking lot. Two dollars will buy a sample scoop of one recipe of jambalaya after the judging takes place.
A sweet potato cook off will also take place with judging to begin at noon in the Crystal Gallery parking lot.
There are five contestants in the jambalaya cook off and six contestants in the sweet potato cook off.
Children 12 years of age or younger can participate in the pumpkin painting contest at Paint Your Own Studio where a ceramic pumpkin will be their canvas. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prizes of $10 for first place and a $10 gift certificate at Paint Your Own Studio will be awarded to the first place winner in each of four age groups.
A toilet tissue toss will raise money for the PRC Blue Devils and Picayune Maroon Tide cheerleaders across the street from Harrison Finance. Three chances can be purchased for only a dollar. Each time a contestant tosses a roll that goes through the toilet seat their name will be entered into a jar. At the end of the contest one name will be pulled from the jar and share in the proceeds with the two cheerleading teams.
The event will also feature live music from “Whoopie” and Kathy and other acts.
