An accident involving two vehicles and a horse, which died on scene, injured passengers in the two cars.
The accident took place on Miss. 43 N. near Fire Tower Road at about 9:22 p.m. Saturday, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Information officer Joe Gazzo.
At that time Charles E. Clark, 68, of Kiln was driving north bound on Miss. 43 N. in a 1988 Lincoln with two passengers, Mary B. Parker, 79 of Picayune and Sylvia S. Clark, 63. South bound on that same road was a 2006 Chevy SUV driven by Sheila G. Miller, 48, of Carriere. Miller had one passenger with her, Thomas E. Miller, 59 also of Carriere.
As he was driving Clark came upon and hit a horse standing in the road and about the same time Sheila Miller came from the opposite direction and also hit the horse.
“One vehicle hit it seconds before the other vehicle hit it,” Gazzo said.
Charles Clark and Parker were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Gazzo said. Sheila and Thomas Miller went to the hospital via private vehicle also with minor injuries, Gazzo said.
The horse died in the accident, Gazzo said.
The incident is still under investigation.
