Picayune Memorial High School Pride of the Tide attends American Dance and Drill Team School

Picayune Memorial High School Pride of the Tide Drill Team officers attended an officer camp sponsored by American Dance and Drill Team School on July 10 through July 12 in Galveston, Texas.
Officers from 21 dance teams from Texas and the surrounding area attended the camp, which focused on leadership seminars, team-building exercises and choreography. Each team performed a home routine the first night, choreographed and performed an original dance routine and learned routines and techniques to bring back to their team at home.
Team officers in attendance included Bailey Sims, co-captain; Heather Hall, Emily Ladner, Emily Lander and Alex Parker, lieutenants.
The girls received numerous prestigious awards during the camp. The first day, the team officers received Most Admired Team of the Day, an award voted on by other teams attending the camp. They received All-American Officers of the Day on the second day. The team officers also received the Home Routine Award, an Award of Excellence, Most Admired Team of the Week that was voted on by other teams, All-American Officers of the Week for their outstanding performance, personal enthusiasm and discipline, Best Overall Technique and Best Overall Choreography.
Individual awards were also presented to dancers showing exceptional performance ability. Emily Lander, Alex Parker and Bailey Sims were selected for Kick Company. One six girls from the entire camp were selected for this honor.
The Miss High Kick award was presented to Bailey Sims. All-American honorees were Heather Hall, Alex Parker and Bailey Sims. All-American Honorable Mention was awarded to Emily Ladner and Emily Lander. Dance Company recipients were Heather Hall, Alex Parker and Bailey Sims. Sims also received the Outstanding Performer Award.
The Pride of the Tide Drill Team is under the direction of Jerry Cumberland and Tara White. The team looks forward to an exciting year. Their first half-time performance wil be August 25, when Moss Point hosts the Maroon Tide football team in Moss Point.
