Soldier killed in Afghanistan

The family of an Army sergeant from Clovis who was killed last weekend in Afghanistan plans a memorial service Sunday, and has invited the community.
Robert P. Kassin, 29, died Sunday near Larzab when his platoon came under enemy fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.
Bethaney Beach, Kassin’s youngest sister, said a funeral will be held in Coushatta, La., once the military releases the body.
In the meantime, the family plans a memorial service with military honors in Clovis on Sunday.
