PICAYUNE — Special to the Item For Picayune Memorial Jr. High School student, Hannah Walker, 2013 has been a very rewarding year so far and now at 13, she has been given the opportunity to spend her summer in New York City at the School of Performing Arts in the Lincoln Center, home to Juilliard.

In December, Walker was honored with performing the leading role of “Clara” for Delta Festival Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker, as well as being accepted into the Delta Festival Youth Ballet with whom she will be performing during their 70th anniversary gala this March.

On January 21st she was accepted in the School of American Ballet’s (SAB) five week ballet summer intensive course. SAB is the most famous classical ballet school in the world with their alumni making up 90 percent of the New York City Ballet and graduates achieving employment with leading ballet companies worldwide.

Most notably in the U.S. are: The New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet, just to mention a few.

The Lincoln Center also hosts the New York City Ballet, New York City Philharmonic Orchestra, New York Opera, and Juilliard. The course will begin June 23 and run through July 27.
