CARRIERE — Work is well underway on one of three storm shelters, this one on the Pearl River Central campus at Carriere. The other two shelters are being constructed at Picayune and in Poplarville and each will contain 10,000 sq. ft. when completed. The shelters’ total costs will hit $9 million overall, and Handco of Hattiesburg won the contract to construct the three shelters. The shelters are designed to house refugees from major storms, like Katrina, for up to three days.
