Picayune CWC attends 2012 District I Convention

PICAYUNE — GFWC-MFWC District I annual convention convened on February 23, 2013, at Juniper Grove Baptist Church, in Poplarville, hosted by Poplarville Woman’s Club. Nancy Griffin, District I President, presided. Boy Scout Troop #28 presented the colors, Linda Hawkins led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Lydia Howard sang the National Anthem. Billy Spiers, mayor of Poplarville, welcomed everyone. A memorial service honored club members who passed this year. From Civic Woman’s Club of Picayune, Mary Ellen Bright, a member for 50 years, was remembered. Suzanne Poynor, GFWC-MFWC President, thanked District members for all the projects and programs they completed to honor veterans and current military personnel. Darlene Adams, GFWC-MFWC President-elect presented membership awards. In January all GFWC-MFWC Clubs entered reports on projects in 8 special project and program areas and 6 advancement areas. They also entered club yearbooks and scrapbooks. Reports and books are judged by members of GFWC-MFWC Executive Board and area chairmen. District results are announced at the district conventions. Civic Woman’s Club of Picayune won first place on scrapbook and yearbook and in many of the other 14 areas resulting in being named District I Club of the Year. Tami Harris of CWC was named District I Club Woman of the Year.

  • City council seeks grant for downtown parking improvements
