Nirenberg seeks post

PICAYUNE — I, Brenda Nirenberg, am announcing my candidacy for Pearl River County Election Commissioner District (Beat) Two. The duty of the person who holds this non-partisan position includes ensuring that elections are run accurately, efficiently and honestly. Election Commissioners are responsible for training poll workers, assisting in maintaining cvoter registration rolls, performing logic and accuracy testing on voting machines prior to elections, and abiding by all state and federal laws pertaining to elections.

My 28 years of experience as a registered nurse in administrative and supervisory positions, training and education, and quality assurance, has prepared me to serve as Election Commissioner. The qualities and skills that I possess and have developed in my profession are the same qualifications that an Election Commissioner should have — the ability to oversee complex operations, train and educate employees, operate technical equipment, and understand and abide by pertinent laws and regulations.

Although the State of Mississippi provides training for this position, I have been proactive in educating myself for this office by attending poll worker training, observing the logic and analysis of the voting machines last spring prior to the primary election and assisting as a volunteer at the courthouse while primary results were coming in from the county’s precincts.

I care deeply for this community and have been actively involved in it by serving as president of the Friends of the Poplarville Public Library and serve as the chairperson for the biennial library Silent Auction which is a major fund raiser for the group. I am also secretary of the Poplarville Academy of Performing Arts, and act as the chairperson of both the Backyard Wildlife Habitat and the Tree Appreciation Programs with the Poplarville Garden Club. I am dedicated to alleviating the local pet overpopulation problem by working with the Cat Pack, a spay/neuter promotion group founded by Ann Bosworth.

I look forward to further serving this community by acting as Election Commissioner for District Two, and would deeply appreciate voters’ consideration of me for this position.
