Dylan Favre arrested on drug charges

POPLARVILLE — Dylan Favre, the nephew of former NFL Most Valuable Player Brett Favre, was arrested early Thursday morning by the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department on a drug charge.

Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier said that at about 12:43 Thursday morning Deputy David Johnson conducted a traffic stop on a silver Dodge Charger, later determined to be driven by 20-year-old Favre, of 1213 Irvin Favre Rd., Pass Christian, for no tag light. As the deputy approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of unburnt marijuana coming from the vehicle, Saucier said. Favre was asked to get out of the vehicle and, based on the smell of marijuana, Johnson used probable cause to search the vehicle.

During the search the deputy found three bags of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, along with a box of sandwich bags and a small set of digital scales. Saucier said the total weight of the marijuana was about a quarter of a pound and it appeared the substance had been packaged for resale. Favre was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and also cited for no tag light, Saucier said.

A prescription pill bottle not in Favre's name was found during the vehicular search containing several pink pills, but the pills were determined not to be a controlled substance, Saucier said.

Favre had recently transferred to Pearl River Community College from Mississippi State University to play football for the Wildcats. Favre was named Mr. Football in Mississippi following the 2009 high school season as a senior at St. Stanislaus College preparatory school in Bay St. Louis, and selected as the Gatorade state player of the year after leading the Rockachaws to the Class 4A state championship. In his two seasons at Mississippi State,

Favre was red-shirted for the 2010 season and played in nine games last year, completing 13 of 26 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs while sharing time with Chris Relf and Tyler Russell. He also had two rushing scores. Prior to signing with MSU in February 2010, Favre had a legendary career at St. Stanislaus where he set nine state high school records, earned Parade All-American honors and led the Rockachaws to the school’s first state football championship in 2009.

During his senior season at St. Stanislaus, he set state records for passing yards in a single game (562 vs. Mendenhall), passing yards in a season (5,589), passing yards in a career (12,559), touchdown passes in a season (63), touchdown passes in a career (144). Favre was seen as the likely starter for PRCC in the 2012 season.
