PRC is hosting Poplarville

VANCLEAVE — A pair of Pearl River County rivals face off to end the regular season action on the hardwood tonight.

Pearl River Central hosts Poplarville in a pair of varsity games as each school prepares for their respective district tournaments that begin next week.

The teams are coming off different results entering tonight's games, as Poplarville split a pair of Division 8-4A games from homestanding Vancleave here Friday night, and visiting PRC was swept by Petal in two contests on Friday night as well.

The Hornets smashed the Bulldogs  82-45, to wrap up league play at 7-3. Anthony Martin had 16 points to pace Poplarville, while Alex Travis added 12 points, Nigel Wood had 11 points and Keith Dotson chipped in 10 points to the winning cause. Rojae Raine scored nine points.

The Poplarville boys are 11-11 overall.

The Lady Hornets dropped a 61-46 decision. Sheena Travis tallied 17 points to lead Poplarville while Shaneisha Hudderson added 12 points.

Travis had 16 points in a win over Greene County last week, which was the Lady Hornets only district win.

The PRC boys dropped a 58-49 decision to homestanding Petal Friday night. Ashton Woodson had 22 points and Walker Roberts chipped in 14 for the Blue Devils.

The Lady Devils lost to the Lady Panthers 55-35. Sabrina Miller paced PRC with 12 points, while Caroline Lumpkin added nine points and Jordan Cobello chipped in eight points. Jessica Powers had 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Poplarville and PRC split a pair of games earlier this season, with the Hornets taking a win and the Lady Devils beating the Lady Hornets for the first time in eight seasons.

On Saturday,  Petal completed a clean sweep of south Pearl River County winning a pair of games from visiting Picayune.

The Panthers beat the Maroon Tide 78-66, Shemar Williams led Picayune with 24 points. The Lady Panthers beat the  Lady Tide 64-52.

Both Picayune teams travel to Stone County tonight to end the regular season
