Most Miss. school districts favor dress codes

Associated Press

JACKSON — The Mississippi School Boards Association says a recent survey found that 61 percent of the state’s public school districts require uniforms or something similar.

Many districts that don’t require a uniform do require some sort of standard dress, such as khaki pants with shirts in school colors.

Two parents whose children are accused of violating dress codes say school officials have too much leeway.

Jennifer Little lost a battle over her 13-year-old daughter wearing skinny jeans at Mendenhall Junior High.

Jackson parent Doris Ball says the battle over her 12-year-old son’s mohawk haircut isn’t over.
