Pass Christian — Ground breaking for society HQ

PASS CHRISTIAN (AP) — A groundbreaking is scheduled Wednesday in Pass Christian for the new home for the city’s Historical Society’s headquarters.

The original site was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Society President Kathie Short tells The Sun Herald that the $1.2 million project is being funded through FEMA grants and insurance proceeds. Some documents from the original building were saved and restored.

The new headquarters will provide meeting space as well as a library for reading and research.

The building the Pass Christian Old Town Library and the society headquarters in one 6,000-square-foot building. Short says the library was also destroyed by Katrina.

Short says construction should be completed within the year.
