Clinton woman pleads guilty to forgery charges

JACKSON — A 38-year-old Clinton woman has pleaded guilty to forgery charges for writing checks against the Veterans Nursing Home in Jackson.

Minnie Sheriff, a former nursing home worker, pleaded guilty Monday in Hinds County Circuit Court to nine counts of uttering a forged instrument. Each of the forged checks was for $1,000. Authorities said the forged checks were written in 2007.

Sheriff had several other forgery counts dismissed as part of her plea deal.

Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green accepted prosecutor’s sentencing recommendation of 10 years with five years suspended and the five remaining years to be served under house arrest. Sheriff was also ordered to make restitution of $9,000 and pay a $1,000 fine.
