Nelson resentenced in Scott Co.

FOREST — Convicted murderer Issac Jermaine Nelson has been resentenced to 25 years in prison for a kidnapping charge related to the slaying of 17-year-old Shannon Lee Torrence.

The Mississippi Supreme Court in April upheld Nelson’s murder conviction and life sentence handed down in 2008. However, the court said a 40-year sentence for kidnapping exceeded the penalty provided in state law.

Scott County Circuit Judge Marcus Gordon resentenced Nelson last week.

Torrence’s body was found on Feb. 26th, 2007, in a wooded area off a county road north of Forest.
