Kids’ joy ride in parents’ car destroys man’s home

GREENVILLE — Dewayne Spearman says he’s looking for a place to live after three teenagers who took their parents’ car for a joy ride allegedly crashed into his home.

Spearman said he returned to the rented house early Tuesday and was stunned to see missing walls.

Greenville fire fighters were hauling away a 1999 gold, Oldsmobile Aurora from the house. Kitchen appliances and furniture were scattered in the backyard.

Police reports say three teenagers, ages 13 through 15, took their parents’ car for a joy ride.

Police Capt. Andrew Kaho said the driver hit a few bumps and lost control of the vehicle around 2 a.m.

Kaho said a 14-year-old girl in the car broke her shoulder.

The three teenagers will appear before the Washington County Youth Court.
