Miss. Senate honors Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland

JACKSON — The Mississippi Senate has honored performer Bobby “Blue” Bland with a resolution calling him “one of rhythm and blues’ foremost artists.”

Bland was joined by singer Bobby Rush, civil rights activist Charles Evers and several others during Tuesday’s presentation in the Senate.

Lawmakers watched a brief video about Bland’s career, which included such hits as “That’s the Way Love Is” and “I Pity the Fool.”

Bland, who was in a wheelchair, thanked the lawmakers, but didn’t make a long speech. After the presentation, he said he was preparing for a performance Saturday in Milwaukee.

The resolution is Senate Concurrent Resolution 597.
