Tide, PRC set intro nights

Both Picayune and Pearl River Central will be on the football field this weekend. The defending Class 5A state champion Maroon Tide will conduct Meet the Team night Friday night beginning at 6 p.m.

Head coach Dodd Lee said that following the introduction of the current team his squad will conduct a game like scrimmage beginning around 7 p.m. “We’re gonna get after it pretty good,” Lee, who is entering his 17th season at th helm of his alma mater, said.

Picayune won 13 games last season, the most in school history, in its march to a 38-21 win over Starkville in the state title game in Jackson last December.

Picayune was originally scheduled to play Gulfport this weekend in a pre-season scrimmage, but the Admirals will play PRC instead.

Pearl River Central will conduct Meet the Blue Devils on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Blue Devils will not scrimmage afterwards, but will take on Gulfport Friday night. Following the Meet the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon, a PRC Alumni game will take place at 6 p.m., with players from before 2003 talking on players from 2003 to last season.

Pearl River Central enjoyed its most successful season in school history last season, as the Blue Devils advanced to the Class 5A South State title game for the first time ever before falling to Picayune 45-10.

Plans for Poplarville’s Meet the Team night were not known at press time. The Hornets beat Stone High in a scrimmage this past weekend.

Also, other teams that Picayune and PRC will face this season will be in action over the weekend.

On Friday night, Hattiesburg is at Moss Point at 6:30 p.m., while Lumberton meets Sumrall and , George County plays Oak Grove with both of those games taking place at Oak Grove. Also on Friday, Brandon plays at Gautier and West Jones is at Petal.

Pascagoula takes on D’Iberville Friday as well.

Ocean Springs, East Central and Vancleave are not participating in jamborees or scrimmages.
