PRC falls

VANCLEAVE — One pretty good half wasn't quite good enough for Pearl River Central Saturday night.

The visiting Blue Devils jumped out to a 7-3 lead at halftime, only to see the homestanding Bulldogs bounce back to tally 21 unanswered points in the second half to take a 24-7 win.

With the loss, PRC falls to 0-2 on the year and the loss was 10th straight for the Blue Devils. Vancleave moved to 2-0 on the young campaign.

“We have to learn how to finish," PRC head coach Jeremy Weir said. "There's no sense in starting if we can't finish it."

The game was moved back a day to Saturday due to Hurricane Gustav, but field conditions were still wet and muddy.

Vancleave got on the board first, as Justin Copeland nailed a 37-yard field goal.

The Blue Devils took the lead, as Je'Barr Locure scored on a 24-yard scoring scamper with 8:21 to play in the second half.

The score was set up when the Blue Devils recovered a fumble at the Bulldog 43, and Blake Herrin hit Phillip Geraci for a 17 yard screen pass two plays later.

The Bulldogs moved deep into PRC territory late in the half, but the Blue Devils held sending the game at 7-3 into halftime.

But it was all Vancleave in the second half.

The Bulldogs set the tone early in the second half, taking the opening possession and driving 73 yards for a score.

Nolan Bang scored on a 8-yard run, and the Bulldogs had the lead for good.

Vancleave sealed the win with a pair of scores in the final period, as PRC never could find any offensive consistency.

Bang scored again on a 1 yard plunge, and Sam Anaya added a 3 yard touchdown run to end the scoring.

PRC hosts Forrest County AHS for Homecoming next week.
