BAY ST. LOUIS, MIss. —
The Pearl River Central girls hope to make some positive noise when district play begins next week.
The Lady Devils also hope that a solid performance in the Bay High Tournament over the next few days will propel them into league play with some momentum.
PRC tips-off play in the three day event today, facing Oak Grove at 1 p.m., in the Tiger Dome.
Host Bay High is scheduled to meet eight-ranked Biloxi in its Thursday night opener at 5:30. Bay is off to a sizzling 16-0 start.
Pascagoula's girls open play against Hancock at 4 p.m. Thursday. The final game of the first day is Pass Christian and Long Beach at 2:30.
On Friday, PRC will meet either Bay High or Biloxi. The losers of those two games meet at 2:30 while the winners of those two games face off at 5:30.
The championship, consolation, fifth and seventh place games are all set for Saturday beginning at Noon.
The annual Gulfport Holiday Hardwood Classic also begins Thursday, with Pascagoula part of an eight-team lineup that also includes the host Admirals and Wayne County, Pass Christian, Madison Central, St. St. Stanislaus, Natchez and Southaven.
The largest event on the coast is the D'Iberville Christmas Tournament, which includes four boys and six girls teams in action over the course of three days.
On Thursday, Vancleave's girls meet West Harrison at 1 p.m., St. Martin's girls take on Stone at 2:30 p.m., Gautier's boys face West Harrison at 4 p.m. and East Central's girls challenge D'Iberville at 5:30 p.m.
Also, the Poplarville boys travel to Flowood, just outside of Jackson, to participate in the Hartfield Academy Tournament over the next two days.

Season ends for Maroon Tide
Picayune’s magical playoff run came up just short of a spot in the state finals.
Homestanding Pascagoula, the defending Class 5A state champs, took a hard-fought 5-3 win over the Maroon Tidee in game three of the best of three South State finals here Saturday before a capacity crowd at Ingalls Field. -

The season came to an end for the Picayune baseball team Saturday afternoon with a 5-3 loss to homestanding Pascagoula here at Ingalls Field in the third and deciding game of the Class 5A South State championship series.

showdown today at 2 p.m., at Ingalls Field for the Class A South State
prep baseball championship and the right to play for the state title. -
Wildcats tring to win Region 23 title
Host Pearl River opened Region 23 Tournament play in dominating fashion here Thursday in Wildcat Stadium, demolishing top-seeded East Central 12-1 in eight innings and now faces second-seeded LSU-Eunice (La.) in Friday’s second round at 7 p.m.

Poplarville's season came to and end in the Class 4A South state finals Tuesday night.
The visiting Lady Hornets fell to Newton County 10-2 in game two of the best-of-three series. -

Two more wins, and Poplarville will be playing for the Class 4A state championship in fast-pitch softball.

The Picayune Maroon Tide and the Pearl River Central Blue Devils both competed in the Class 5A South State track and field championships this past Saturday at Long Beach High School.

Picayune finished the regular season nine games under the break even mark.
But, four games into the Class 5A South State playoffs. the Maroon Tide is unbeaten. -
Lady Hornets beat North Pike
Poplarville is moving on to the Class 4A South State finals.
